Grey Francolin - The Vanishing Beauty
From the last few years, I have been very disappointed by hunters that hunt grey francolin. I have seen this beautiful bird getting disappeared from our area and near the village.
Ten years ago, there were at least 10 to 20 grey francolin within 1 kilometer. They were calling loudly in the morning. The morning was so charming that sometimes I had to go and sit near them in a bush with my pet grey francolin. They would start challenging with mine, and suddenly they would come out from nowhere for my pet to fight. But as they watched or saw me, they would fly away. That was the best scene of my whole day.

Sometimes, while driving on the road, they would come out on the road with their pair. But now, I have been very sad with it. Not even 5 would you see, and that too far far away. Hunters are going too hard on them. 90% have been vanished. Some are hunted, and some have migrated from our area.
2. Why This Bird Is Getting Extinction by Hunters
Why has this bird started disappearing? The answer is simple: hunters.
Hunters Come Every Day
Hunters nowadays come every day. They bring a license that allows limited hunting, but they use it wrongly — hunting unlimited. Some even come without any license and hunt without fear from the government. No one stops them. With hunting every day and no break given to the birds, they are getting extinct.
Using Guns That Are Not Allowed & Hunting from Vehicles
Sometimes hunters use guns that are not allowed. When they see a group of grey francolin sitting together, they shoot them all in one shot with those guns. One shot. Whole group finished. Nothing left. Some hunters don't even get out of their vehicles. They sit inside and shoot from the windows. The birds don't see them coming. There is no chance to run or hide.
Thin Net Traps & No Thinking About Breeding
Hunters use thin net traps with the help of their pet female francolin. They tie the female in a place. The wild males hear her and come close to fight or mate. Then the net falls. The hunter catches them easily. This is not hunting. This is cheating. The worst part is — hunters don't think about tomorrow. They hunt and hunt and hunt. No birds left for breeding. When breeding season comes, there are no pairs. No eggs. No chicks. Then next season they hunt again, and nothing remains. Slowly, the bird just vanishes.
3. The Silence Now – What We Have Lost
4. What Must Change – Before It's Too Late
We cannot bring back the birds that are already gone. But we can save the few that are still left. If we don't act now, in a few years there will be nothing to save.
Government Must Take Action
The government must stop unlicensed hunters. Heavy fines. Cancel licenses. Ban hunting during breeding season. Stop vehicle hunting. Ban net traps.
Hunters Must Control Themselves
Hunt only once a week. Stop after 2 or 3 birds. Leave some areas untouched as safe zones.
Villagers & Awareness
Protect remaining birds. Report illegal hunters. Plant thorny bushes for cover. Teach young hunters and children that this bird is worth saving. Something small from every person can save this bird. But if everyone does nothing, the grey francolin will soon be just a memory.
📖 I wrote this post because I love this bird and I miss the old mornings. I don't want to be the last person who remembers their call. بھورا تیتر - خوبصورت پرندہ
پچھلے کچھ سالوں سے میں شکاریوں سے بہت مایوس ہوں جو بھورے تیتر کا شکار کرتے ہیں۔ میں نے اپنے علاقے اور گاؤں کے قریب اس خوبصورت پرندے کو غائب ہوتے دیکھا ہے۔
دس سال پہلے، ایک کلومیٹر کے فاصلے میں کم از کم دس سے بیس بھورے تیتر ہوتے تھے۔ وہ صبح کے وقت اونچی آواز میں پکارتے تھے۔ صبح اتنی دلکش ہوتی تھی کہ کبھی کبھی میں اپنے پالتو تیتر کو لے کر جھاڑی کے پاس جا کر بیٹھ جاتا تھا۔ وہ میرے تیتر کو للکارتے اور اچانک کہیں سے نکل آتے۔ لیکن جیسے ہی وہ مجھے دیکھتے، اڑ جاتے۔ یہ میرے پورے دن کا سب سے خوبصورت منظر ہوتا تھا۔
کبھی کبھی سڑک پر گاڑی چلاتے ہوئے، وہ جوڑے کے ساتھ سڑک پر آ جاتے تھے۔ لیکن اب میں بہت دکھی ہوں۔ پانچ بھی دور دور سے نظر آئیں تو بڑی بات ہے۔ شکاری ان پر بہت ظالم ہو گئے ہیں۔ نوے فیصد ختم ہو چکے ہیں۔ کچھ شکار ہوئے، کچھ ہجرت کر گئے۔
2. یہ پرندہ شکاریوں کی وجہ سے کیوں ناپید ہو رہا ہے
یہ پرندہ کیوں غائب ہو رہا ہے؟ جواب آسان ہے: شکاری۔
شکاری ہر روز آتے ہیں
آج کل شکاری ہر روز آتے ہیں۔ ان کے پاس لائسنس ہوتا ہے جو محدود شکار کی اجازت دیتا ہے، لیکن وہ اسے غلط استعمال کرتے ہیں — لامحدود شکار۔ کچھ بغیر لائسنس کے آتے ہیں اور حکومت سے بے خوف شکار کرتے ہیں۔ کوئی انہیں نہیں روکتا۔ ہر روز شکار اور پرندوں کو آرام نہ ملے تو وہ ختم ہو جاتے ہیں۔
غیر قانونی ہتھیار اور گاڑی سے شکار
کبھی کبھار شکاری ایسی بندوقیں استعمال کرتے ہیں جن کی اجازت نہیں ہوتی۔ جب بھورے تیتر کا جھنڈ دیکھتے ہیں تو ایک ہی گولی سے سب کو مار دیتے ہیں۔ ایک گولی، پورا گروپ ختم۔ کچھ شکاری گاڑی سے باہر نہیں نکلتے۔ کھڑکی سے گولی مارتے ہیں۔ پرندوں کو پتا نہیں چلتا۔ بھاگنے یا چھپنے کا موقع نہیں ملتا۔
باریک جال اور افزائش کے بارے میں سوچ کا فقدان
شکاری اپنی پالتو مادہ تیتر کے ساتھ باریک جال استعمال کرتے ہیں۔ مادہ کو باندھ دیتے ہیں، جنگلی نر آتا ہے اور جال گرتا ہے۔ شکاری آسانی سے پکڑ لیتا ہے۔ یہ شکار نہیں، دھوکہ ہے۔ سب سے بری بات یہ کہ شکاری کل کے بارے میں نہیں سوچتے۔ وہ شکار ہی شکار کرتے ہیں۔ افزائش کے لیے پرندے نہیں بچتے۔
3. اب خاموشی – ہم نے کیا کھو دیا
یہ نقصان صرف آج نظر نہیں آتا۔ لیکن کچھ سالوں بعد، یا شاید اگلے دس مہینوں میں کھیت خالی ہوں گے۔
اس خوبصورت پرندے کی کوئی آواز نہ ہوگی، دلکش صبحیں نہ ہوں گی۔
سڑک پر نظر آنا میرا پسندیدہ لمحہ تھا۔ کیونکہ میں سمجھتا تھا کہ جب پرندہ سڑک پر جوڑے کے ساتھ آتا ہے تو مطلب ہے وہ ہم سے خوش ہیں، ہم پر بھروسہ کرتے ہیں۔
4. کیا بدلنا چاہیے – بہت دیر ہونے سے پہلے
ہم وہ پرندے واپس نہیں لا سکتے جو جا چکے، لیکن جو بچے ہیں انہیں بچا سکتے ہیں۔ اگر اب نہ بدلا تو کچھ سالوں میں بچانے کو کچھ نہ ہوگا۔
حکومت کو اقدامات کرنے ہوں گے
حکومت کو بغیر لائسنس شکاریوں کو روکنا ہوگا۔ بھاری جرمانے ہوں، افزائش کے موسم میں شکار بند ہو، گاڑی سے شکار بند ہو، جالوں پر پابندی ہو۔
شکاری خود پر قابو رکھیں
ہفتے میں صرف ایک بار شکار کریں، دو یا تین پرندوں کے بعد رک جائیں، کچھ علاقوں کو مکمل طور پر محفوظ چھوڑ دیں۔
دیہاتی اور آگاہی
بچے ہوئے پرندوں کی حفاظت کریں، غیر قانونی شکاریوں کی اطلاع دیں، جھاڑیاں لگائیں۔ ہر شخص کی چھوٹی سی تبدیلی اس پرندے کو بچا سکتی ہے۔
📖 میں نے یہ تحریر اس لیے لکھی کہ مجھے یہ پرندہ پیارا ہے اور پرانی صبحیں یاد آتی ہیں۔ اگر آج ہم کچھ نہ بدلیں تو کل صرف خاموشی رہ جائے گی۔ براہِ کرم شکار سے پہلے سوچیں۔
